Colin initially decided to undergo Tommy John surgery, involving repairing a damaged ligament in the elbow, then later changed course and decided forgo elbow reconstructive surgery for platelet-rich plasma injection.  Surgical repair doesn't guarantee success so less invasive options are encouraging, especially as they can shorten the 14-18 month recovery period typically required after surgery.  PRP injections are simple procedures done in office at Black Stone Physical Medicine in Corvallis, Oregon.  Follow link to article.

Bloomberg.com discusses multiple athletes using platelet rich plasma injections to help injuries recover and avoid surgery.  This article also mentions Kobe Bryant and other professional athletes seeking help from PRP injections.  There is discussion regarding the lack of robust evidence supporting the effectiveness which complicates its use, although most of those discussed in the article had quick recovery and were able to avoid surgery.  Platelet-rich plasma treatments are quick and simple, and are performed here in Corvallis Oregon at Black Stone Physical Medicine.
